Rotisserie chicken can be made at home anytime you want and easy dinner recipe for the family. Or you can season and cook a whole chicken in the crock pot to use the cooked chicken meat in other recipes for your family.
Now that school is back in session making a home cooked meal for the family will be a little harder. Make use of one of the best kitchen appliance there is and cook a whole chicken in your slow cooker!
How to season a whole chicken when cooking in a crock pot?
How to season a whole chicken for cooking in a crock pot is very easy to do. You can use home grow fresh herbs or you can use store bought seasoning mixes.
One of my favorite brands of seasoning mixes is the McCormick’s Grill Mates seasonings.
There are about thirty different flavors to choose from. My very favorite McCormick’s Grill Mate seasoning is the Mesquite seasoning. But I have a cabinet full of another 5 or 6 McCormick Grill Mates seasonings to choose from while I am cooking.

How To Make Crock Pot Whole Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 5-6 lb Whole Chicken
- 3 tablespoons McCormick’s Grill Mates Seasoning (I used McCormick’s Grill Mates Spicy Chipotle and Garlic seasoning)
- 1 medium onion
- 20 or so baby carrots
Directions
- First clean the chicken by removing any gizzards, trimming the tail end and rinsing the entire chicken under cold running water.
- Place the chicken on a cutting board or cookie sheet to allow any moisture to drain. Pat dry with paper towels.
- If you have a rack for your slow cooker put it into the bottom of the crock pot and place the chicken on it. If you don’t have a rack place the sliced onion and carrots on the bottom of the crock pot to elevate the whole chicken.
- If using a rack stuff the sliced onion into the cavity of the chicken and place the carrots around the outside of the chicken on the rack.
- Sprinkle the seasoning all over the skin of the whole chicken then using your hands rub the spices in covering all of the skin. Immediately wash hands with hot soapy water.
- Turn the crock pot on the high setting and cover.
- Slow cook the crock pot whole chicken for 4-5 hours.
- Check the internal temperature of the chicken after cooking for 4 hours.
- The chicken is cooked thoroughly when the internal temperature at the thickest part of the breast has reached 165 F.
- Once the whole chicken is cooked completely carefully lift it from the crock pot and place it on a serving platter.
- Remove any onion and carrots from the crock pot and place them around the chicken on the platter.
- Slice to serve.
- Makes 6 servings.
